2. Double layered
Opting for double layers is a popular solution with interior designers. A layer of voile lets in light during the day while still offering privacy, while a separate pair of black-out curtains can be drawn for bedtime.
'If your current bedroom window treatment doesn't give you complete blackout then consider investing in a good curtain maker who can create blackout lined curtains for a simple but effective treatment,' advises Jo Littlefair, Co-Founder and Director of Goddard Littlefair.
'Bedroom curtains have to be really practical as they don't just have to look pretty but they must successfully block out the light – so be careful about shape and form and fabric choices. A blackout blind behind is sometimes needed,' says Naomi Astley Clarke.
'If you like to sleep in blackout, install full shades with side channels to avoid light leak. If you prefer to rise with the sun, unlined drapery works well,' advises Anna Beeber, Partner at Champalimaud Design.

10. Pleat
Pinch pleat curtains are an elegant, classic, and timeless choice. Often used with simple fabrics, they look smart without distracting from the rest of the room.
Pinch pleated curtains essentially gather the pencil pleats into groups of two or more for a more decorative heading. This will work with most types of fabric, but bear in mind that the more pleats, the more fabric is needed and so increases the cost of the finished curtains.
